Creating a wedding budget is one of the most important and often difficult aspects of planning a wedding. If you have no idea of what things cost in your area then this can make it even more complicated. Follow these 4 easy steps to creating a wedding budget and you won’t have to worry about overspending or purchasing any unnecessary items.
The first thing you will need to do is research the costs of photographers, flowers, cakes etc., by contacting suppliers and requesting brochures. Don’t forget those hidden wedding costs featured in the previous post!
Ask yourselves what is it that you really want and need. Make a list of all the things that are important to both of you, but also make a list of those you could go without or spend less on if worst came to worst. For example, allocating a large proportion of your budget to do catering, photography, and entertainment is definitely a good idea. Having gorgeous visual memories of your special day, great food, and guests dancing until they drop is priceless.
Decide and confirm who will be paying for what. Will it be just you and your partner, your parents, or both parties? It's always best to be clear on this from the outset, so that if your parents are paying for all or some aspects of your wedding you are aware of how much they are able to spend.
Agree on a budget! And once this is done try and stick to it! It's much easier to say yes than no, but because you’ve taken the steps to do your research and prioritise your ‘wants’ you’ll find this much easier to do!!
